This painting was originally done as a study of a nude figure. Upon Jordan's conversion to Christianity and subsequently the Catholic faith, he felt a strong compulsion to present this woman's beauty in a more dignified manner that also represented his own personal conversion and repentance. Thus the robes and halo emerged in the final product, and creating a piece that serves as a symbol of the freedom and redemption that comes from accepting the Christian Sexual Morality.
